ADAPTING FOR COVID 19

Adapting Art Dept to work with Coronavirus Minimising interaction with Art Dept Crew. Continually reviewing and updating work plans in accordance with the Government Guidelines


Brief/ Design               

  • Full brief and discussion with Director/Production via Zoom or phone regarding design, props and all art dept required.
  • Location manager to supply a film of the location.
  • Designs, boards etc will be shared via email.

Location

  • A fully comprehensive plan would be devised to ensure the shoot is workable.

When I need to go to the Location.

  • Our cars would be thoroughly cleaned.
  • I would meet with my construction person (having sanitized our hands etc. We would wear masks and gloves).
  • Take our shoes off at the door. 
  • Any phones, computers, measuring tapes etc would be cleaned as per guidelines before entering the location.
  • The owners of the house need to social distance from us, e.g. in a room upstairs or go for a walk.
  • We would carry sanitisers, so any surface touched would be cleaned if we touched anything. Door handles etc.

Talk through anything needed with Director via Zoom.

  • Anything that needs to be built would be built off set and brought to the location in a thoroughly cleaned van.
  • Every measure would be taken to ensure any set built is cleaned as would be any tools.

Location Build Day

  • The family would leave the house or go upstairs.
  • I would work with them, observing social distancing.
  • The construction crew will be kept to a minimal. 
  • The guidelines would be strictly followed.
  • Gloves, masks etc would be used, shoes taken off at the door, sanitisers set up by the door.

Social distancing would be adhered to

  • Build/paint etc. 
  • The construction crew would leave.
  • Prop dept would enter adhering to the guidelines as above.
  • Minimal dressing crew would be used.
  • All props will be kept in the clean transport truck.
  • All props needed would be purchased by the buyer. 
  • These props will be cleaned and then delivered in clean vehicle to location.
  • Photographs would be taken of the dressed set and emailed to the Director for approval.
  • Art Dept would depart location having wiped down surfaces, door handles etc.

Studio Build

  • The studio needs to be rented as required.
  • The carpenters/painters/special effects etc will have workdays staggered in accordance with social distancing.
  • The Prop department would then come in and dress the set. All the props would be cleaned as per Prop care section. Photographs taken for the Directors approval.
  • One extra person will be assigned to ensure that all props, tools, materials. etc are cleaned before and after use.

Shoot Day

  • The guidelines would be followed as per Production.
  • Minimal crew.

Strike

  • Would follow the same guidelines as the build.
  • Prop/ Construction depts would be kept separate.

Props

  • A buyer would be employed to work from home.
  • Buy everything online.
  • If they need to go to the open shops/ prop houses (when they open this would be done as per guidelines.
  • They would wear a mask and wear gloves and thoroughly clean their car and all equipment.
  • Petty cash would be transferred to the buyer from Production, so no money needs to be handled.
  • Receipts/Breakdown would be emailed to Production when wrap the job.
  • The purchased props would be delivered directly to the Prop Transport company.
  • The outer packages removed and recycled.
  • All props would be thoroughly sanitised and placed into a completely cleaned prop van assigned for the job.
  • The prop Driver would clean the props.
  • The purchases from the shops will be delivered to the Prop Transport Company, following the social distancing and cleaning guidelines.
  • All the props would arrive at studio or location thoroughly cleaned/sanitised.
  • Props tables would be also cleaned.
  • Back up Prop Driver would be pencilled in case original prop driver falls ill.

Filming Days 

  • Prop men and I would be on the shoot.
  • We would adhere to all social distancing/cleaning guidelines a per Production.
  • All props would only be handled by the prop man and actor and cleaned when touched.
  • Strike/Put back, needs to be done on a separate day to the filming unless the job is minimal.
  • The same rules will apply for any special effects etc.

I have written this plan to ensure the safety of my crew and the other people involved.
